Conservatory Roof Conversions Across Darlington & the North East

Your conservatory should be one of the most-used rooms in your home. If it’s too cold to sit in from October to April and too hot to breathe in from June to August — that’s not a conservatory problem. That’s a roof problem. And it’s one we fix every week across Teesside, North Yorkshire, and County Durham.
We have been in the roofing trade since 1992. Conservatory roof conversions are our flagship service — and we’ve been transforming cold, wasted spaces into proper year-round living rooms since the day Roofs & Drives Ltd opened.
No obligation. No payment until the work is complete and you’re satisfied.

Conservatory Roof Replacement Across the North East

Does any of this sound familiar?

Most conservatories were built with polycarbonate or glass roofs — materials that were never designed for year-round comfort. If yours is sitting unused for half the year, you’re not alone. These are the complaints we hear every week:
If you recognise any of those — a tiled conservatory roof conversion is almost certainly the answer. Here’s what that actually means in practice.

What a conservatory roof conversion actually changes

When we replace a polycarbonate or glass conservatory roof with a fully insulated tiled roof system, the difference isn’t subtle. The space goes from something you tolerate — somewhere coats get left and plants get forgotten — to a proper room your family actually wants to be in. Warm in January. Comfortable in July. Quiet when it rains. Useful all twelve months of the year.

Our insulated tiled roofing systems carry a U-value as low as 0.18 W/m²K — which means they lose 97% less heat than a standard glazed conservatory roof. In practical terms: your boiler works less, your energy bills go down, and the room stays at a comfortable temperature without you having to think about it. That’s not a marketing claim — it’s what the thermal performance data says, and it’s what our customers tell us after the first winter.

How it works — 4-step process

How the conversion works — from first call to finished room

Most conservatory roof conversions take between three and five days from start to finish. Here’s exactly what happens:

Step 1 - Free survey & quote

Member of the team comes out to take measurements, assess your existing structure, and talk through your options. You get a detailed written quote — no pressure, no obligation.

Step 2 - Removal of the old roof

We strip the existing polycarbonate or glass roof panels carefully and cleanly. Your conservatory frame stays in place — we work around it.

Step 3 - Installation of the insulated tiled system

We install a lightweight aluminium or timber frame and fit the high-performance insulated roofing panels and tiles. Every element is weatherproofed, flashed, and finished to a professional standard.

Step 4 - Interior & exterior finish

The interior ceiling and exterior tiles are finished to your specification. We clean up completely before we leave — and you don't pay a penny until the work is done and you're happy with it.

Roofing systems — Plaintile & LEKA

The roofing systems we use — and why we chose them

We don’t use one-size-fits-all materials. Depending on the size and structure of your conservatory, we’ll recommend one of two proven roofing systems — both lightweight, both fully insulated, both backed by long-term guarantees.

Tileform Plaintile — lightweight tiled roofing

The Plaintile system gives you the look of a traditional tiled roof at a fraction of the weight — which means it works on conservatory structures that couldn't support standard roof tiles. Seven tile repeats per panel, broken bond profile, and a fully dry-fixed installation that requires no mortar and virtually no maintenance.
Minimum pitch: 12° | Guaranteed 40 years against weather penetration | Cost-effective and quick to install

LEKA Conservatory Roof System

LEKA is one of the most thermally efficient conservatory roof systems available. The lightweight aluminium framework is designed specifically for conservatory conversions — structurally sound, fully insulated, and finished with your choice of tiles. A clean, modern result that adds genuine living space to your home. Designed for conservatory structures | High thermal performance | Choice of tile finish

Not sure which system is right for your conservatory? We'll assess both options during your free survey and explain the recommendation clearly — no jargon.
